Guanabara é um termo de origem tupi-guarani que significa embarcação de tamanho médio. A Caravela foi escolhida para representar o novo momento da Igreja.
Trata-se de uma embarcação datada do século XV e que teve importante papel no período das grandes navegações que resultaram no estabelecimento de novas rotas comerciais e a conexão com o novo mundo.
Era rápida, de fácil manobra e suas velas latinas (formato triangular) lhe permitia técnicas de navegação contra o vento.

Guanabara is a term of Tupi-Guarani origin that means medium-sized vessel. The Caravela was chosen to represent the new moment of the Church.
It is a 15th century vessel that played an important role in the period of the great navigations that resulted in the establishment of new commercial routes and the connection with the new world.
It was fast, easy to maneuver and its Latin sails (triangular shape) allowed it to navigate against the wind.
